You will see on my son's planner that I've written 'meds morning' and 'meds night' to remind him to take his medication at these times.  Without disclosing what medication he takes, he requires to take this regularly and twice a day.  Some people might think that taking medication is part of a self care routine.  In my post yesterday about self care I said my son is pretty good at his self care routine but adding in medication to this has never become a habit enough to cover it in 'self care' so he still needs this extra prompt.

Taking medication for most people is a 'must do' in their routine although some medications can be taken as needed.  Remembering to take medication can be tricky because you might need to take several medications at different times.  Before adding medication to your daily routine, it is important that you know what medication you take and when and the dose you need to take.  Keep hold of your medication boxes as they generally have this information on the label as well as your name so you know the medication belongs to you (you might live with other people who keep their medication in the same place).  There is generally also an information leaflet in the box which is also worth keeping for future reference.

Do you know what medication you take and why?  Some people take medication for a long time but never review their need to take it.  A health professional at your community pharmacy or GP practice can help you if you want to know more about your medications.

See below a list of hints and tips for remembering to take medication.  How do you organise your medication?  How do you remember to take it?  Please share your ideas in the comments.
