Open the Curtains - Morning Light

The next daily task on my son's planner is 'open the curtains'. There is evidence that getting some morning light supports your circadian sleep rhythms and helps your body to know when to go to sleep at night time.  If this wasn't on my son's planner he would likely leave his curtains and blinds closed for most of the day until it was relevant for him to open them, for example, if he wanted to see what the weather is like (he loves tracking the weather).

Some people keep their curtains closed as the light can feel too bright.  If this is the case then cranking it open a little (a couple of inches) or even just letting in light for 1-2 hours in the morning hours will also help.  You might start to build this up gradually starting with a couple of minutes and working towards a longer time.  Opening my bedroom blind is one of the first things I do in the morning.

Opening the blind is part of my morning routine but again it needs to be a separate task for my son as he hasn't quite bought into it being a good idea yet but he's willing to give it a try.

How do you get your morning light?  Please share your ideas in the comments below.
